Cumin prices firm up despite robust production

Ramakrishnan M, Managing Director, Primus Partners, shares his view on volatility in India's cumin production, ranging from 5.5 to 9 lakh metric tonnes annually. Prices have varied widely between Rs 125/kg and around Rs 600/kg over the past six years due to minimal government control. He noted that traditional market players can influence prices by withholding stocks. Cumin prices typically start low post-harvest (March to May) and rise until Diwali, peaking around September/October before declining. He expects a similar price trend this year, potentially reaching last year's highs. Read now!
