Maize production needs boost, adjust prices for grain ethanol: Report
11-04-2025
A recent report by management consulting firm Primus Partners, in collaboration with the Grain Ethanol Manufacturers Association (GEMA), highlights that rising maize prices have made ethanol production costlier and less competitive, potentially discouraging future investment in the sector. The report recommends incentivising farmers to shift towards maize cultivation by ensuring access to high-yield seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation infrastructure. It also notes that during the last Ethanol Supply Year (November–October), grain ethanol producers faced financial losses as procurement prices remained unchanged despite increasing maize costs — dampening the entrepreneurial momentum of this emerging industry.
