Primus Partners Survey Finds Urban Citizens Disconnected From Local Governance
28-04-2025
A recent survey by Primus Partners reveals a disconnect between urban Indian citizens and their municipal representatives, with limited civic engagement and poor accountability in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Covering 2,500 people across 75 cities, the study found that despite electoral awareness, many abstain from voting or civic participation. Only 7% found representatives approachable, and 85% were unaware of civic forums. Communication gaps, low budget awareness, and dissatisfaction with services were linked to weak governance. Although politically aware, millennials showed sporadic involvement, highlighting the need for systemic reforms and stronger citizen-representative ties to enhance urban governance.
