Davinder Sandhu, Co-founder & Chairman, Primus Partners and Neetish Kumar, Energy Vertical Lead, Primus Partners, highlight the urgent need for large-scale energy storage to support India’s rapidly expanding renewable energy capacity. They emphasise Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) as a proven, scalable and cost-effective solution for storing surplus renewable power and enabling round-the-clock clean energy. With around 7.4 GW of operational capacity and an estimated potential of 267 GW, PSH can strengthen India’s energy security, reduce dependence on imported technologies, and advance the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. They conclude that scaling up PSH will be critical to ensuring reliable clean energy and achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047.
