EV industry, government struggle to find alternatives as China throttles rare earth magnet supply

Nikhil Dhaka, Vice-president, Primus Partners, highlighted the critical role of rare earth magnets in electric vehicle (EV) motors and cautioned that any disruption in their supply could significantly impact automakers, as alternative sources are not readily available. While magnet-free motor technologies are being explored, he emphasized that without resolving the rare earth supply issue, automakers may be forced to import entire motors.
