Arun Moral, Managing Director, Primus Partners, shares his view on the FASTag blacklisting rule. He explains that if a FASTag owner is blacklisted at a specific time (T1) and their vehicle is scanned at a toll plaza, the transaction is declined with reason code 176, and the user is charged double the toll fee. However, if the FASTag is recharged either 60 minutes before or 10 minutes after the vehicle is read at the toll (R1), the transaction is accepted, and only the standard toll fee is deducted instead of double. If a blacklisted FASTag owner crosses the toll plaza without prior recharging, they will still be charged 2x the toll fee. NPCI clarifies that in cases where a FASTag is recharged just before reaching the toll, the plaza’s technology determines whether the transaction is processed or if the driver must pay manually.
