India’s Green Commute Slows Down as EV Cabs Lose Spark
31-05-2025
Nikhil Dhaka, Vice-president, Primus Partners, highlighted that the end of the FAME II scheme led to a ₹1–1.5 lakh increase in vehicle prices, undermining the business case for EV adoption. While the October 2024 PM E-DRIVE scheme prioritized electric two- and three-wheelers and buses, it withdrew direct support for electric four-wheelers. This shift hurt the cab segment, where operators, lacking targeted incentives, struggled with high upfront costs and often reverted to internal combustion engine vehicles.
