A new report by Primus Partners, "The Cost of Climate Change: Young Voices in a Warming World", highlights a neglected consequence of climate change in India: its severe impact on youth mental health. The study estimates this mental health burden could cost India $13.7 billion annually, or 0.35% of its GDP. Driven by eco-anxiety, pollution-related neuroinflammation, and systemic gaps in mental healthcare, young Indians are facing rising levels of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The report urges urgent reforms, from increasing trained mental health professionals in schools to policy changes and awareness campaigns, emphasizing the need to measure outcomes, not just actions, in tackling this growing crisis.
