Urban India Feels Alienated from Their Local Elected Representatives: Report

A recent Primus Partners report reveals that 78% of urban residents feel disconnected from their municipal representatives, leading to disengagement in civic activities. The survey found that 38% of respondents either abstained from voting or chose NOTA in their last municipal elections, signaling growing disillusionment with local governance. Furthermore, 70% are unaware of or unable to engage in formal platforms like Ward Sabhas, and 63% struggle to communicate with their local representatives. Transparency issues also persist, with 82% unaware of their municipal body’s budget and 55% uninformed about local development activities, contributing to widespread dissatisfaction among citizens.
